Updated: Mar 19, 2024

Why so many people who move away, MOVE BACK!

Alright, if I am being totally honest when I was younger I was not very interested in this town,

AT ALL.

Just like most teenagers in this area, I thought there was no way I could do anything great in this small town.

I am certainly learning, I was wrong!

Well, maybe I am just a "hometown girl" at heart but looking around, this area it is much more charming than given credit for.

I've found so much to enjoy and love in this small town and I look forward to sharing that with you. My goal is to create a community that agrees and maybe even get a some new people to see the beauty of this area as well!

I mean, don't get me wrong, I love exploring and traveling to new cities, but none of them seem to shout "home" quite like The Adirondack area does for me!

Here is what I find so homey about our little town of Plattsburgh, New York.

Rich with History

This may be my favorite part of the town.

lf you are willing to look around, you can uncover some hidden historic gems all over The Adirondacks.

Over 230+ years old, Plattsburgh, New York, founded around 1784, has been through many turns of life.

From the War of 1812, the Battle of Plattsburgh, to secret spots of the Underground Railroad, and more. Plattsburgh, NY is certainly bursting with stories from the past.

I highly recommend going on a local ghost tour if you are new to the area or even if you have lived here most of your life. It is a great way to hear the stories of the past and learn the history of this area!

The Greater Adirondack Ghost Tour Company is extremely knowledgeable on all of the local history.

They also have an incredibly interesting Facebook where you can follow along with each day into the past! Its where I have learned a vast majority of history about this town and gained a greater appreciation for landmarks I pass frequently.

Check them out at the links below.

Sprawling with Natural Beauty

Nestled in between Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountain range, Plattsburgh is sprawling with natural beauty.

waterfalls and cliffs,

apple orchards on apple orchards,

mountain ranges wherever you look,

corn fields forever,

and forests of tall pines make up the perfect formula for exuding this areas natural charm.

Really there is not much else to say.

Other than,

this area is just very blessed by mother nature.

Can you guess where in The Adirondacks this photo was taken??

(answer at the bottom of page, locals if you get this wrong ill be disappointed!)

All 4 seasons

“Each moment of the year has its own beauty."

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Bitter cold winters that seem to last forever and summers that feel so short,

Who would'nt want to live here?!

There are plenty of fun winter activities to enjoy around here when its not negative 18 out!

Although winters are long, I find them refreshing to slow down and relish in a day of ice skating followed by hot chocolate.

And with multiple mountains close by like Whiteface and Gore, the surrounding towns are plentiful with skiing, snowboarding, and sledding.

The spring time is always exciting when things start to come alive again. You can find walking trails ALL over every town of The Adirondacks and watch the nature come back to life!

Like I said, Summer always seem too short but we take advantage of every beautiful day on the lake, hiking, or my personal fav, picnicking!

Stay tuned for my favorite picnicking spots!!

Now if you are from the area you know that the Fall season around here is just incredible, beyond words or photos!

One of the best places to enjoy Fall, by far is Lake Placid! Just the drive through the Wilmington Notch is enough to write home about!

We certainly cherish each season for what it has to offer and are lucky to be able to enjoy every season.

Answer: Lake Placid, NY!!

Conclusion

There are so many hidden gems and things to appreciate in this town that I think many people just forget to be grateful for.

You don't have to be an avid outdoorsie type to enjoy what The Adirondack area has to offer.

Just to getting out in the natural charm of this area is so energizing! Even if its just walking at Point Au Rouche!

I am so excited to start sharing why I love The Adirondack area! I have been pondering writing a blog about this area for a few YEARS now. I never knew where to start but here it goes with a quick general post about the area!!

Of course, please follow along as I post more things to do and see! And just give a little gratitude towards our hometown. My main goal is to be a resource for this area!

I would also love to hear from you too!! What is your favorite part about The Adirondacks??

Don't be afraid to leave a comment or photo!! I would love to hear more about this area!
